3.6.15 | Summertime – Bridget Mendler

Stand-out Lyric/s – Stars Are Bright Outside My Window / Wake Up This Song Echoes Off My Pillow / And I Remember, Oh I Remember / I Remember My Summer With You

When I got home from work, my boyfriend was waiting, with The Secret World of Arriety ready to go. I had told him previously that I hadn’t seen the movie and was really wanting to. My fiancé and I have a love for children’s movies in the fact that they are silly, touching, and interesting. We are also huge Disney fans, so we are game to always see something that Disney puts out.
Last year, for our summer vacation, we went to Disney World. It was a long time in the making, but we finally did it, and I know we shouldn’t be, but we were pretty proud of ourselves. This song not only set a good pace for the movie but it reminded me of being away with John-Mark and escaping our crazy, hectic work schedules. We woke up every morning in Disney World with a full itinerary and our hearts ready for just one another. Spending the time with him in DIsney was so special because we were just with each other and no one else in the world mattered at the moment. We were genuinely happy being there and holding each other the whole time and just having an experience together. I can’t wait for our many other adventures to come, no matter what they may be.

2.23.15 | Come Sail Away – Styx

Stand-out Lyric/s – I look to the sea reflections in the waves spark my memory / Some happy some sad / I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had / We live happily forever so the story goes / But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold / But we’ll try best that we can to carry on

I had a complete turn around morning at work today. I ended up closing for a friend and making some pretty decent money. When work was over, I ran home because my night plans involved fun.
My fiancé and I were going to meet my friend, Liz, at a theatre where she was hosting a screening of “The Princess Bride”. She dressed up as the Dread Pirate Roberts and got the crowd into an inconceivable mood! I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen the movie in its entirety. I knew it was one of my fiancé’s favorite movies so i told Liz that we would tag along. It was super fun and I loved the movie and was disappointed I did not see it in my childhood! It was a really cool experience to see older people excited to see it again and react to the movie, and to see a younger generation maybe seeing it for the first time with their parents and thinking it was “so cool!”.
On the way home, we listened to our classic rock station and this song came on. I do think of Eric Cartman from South Park when I hear this song, I won’t lie, but it made me immediately start singing and doing strange hand gestures. Also, John-Mark was really into to so when he gets into the same music as I do, it makes every part of my heart happy. We jammed out to the station all the way home and even some other oldies but goodies when we got home.
It was a great night and I hope to recreate it with other movies in the near future. 🙂

2.21.15 | Hush – Kula Shaker

Stand-out Lyric/s – Hush, hush…I thought I heard you’re calling my name now / Hush, hush…you broke my heart but that was a dream now

SO today, I was kinda in a daze. I was definitely hungover from a long night of partying with some of my new friends from work. I don’t remember drinking very much, but it’s been so long since I had done some drinking, that my body was not prepared. So work was a definite journey, and I had to be there all day.
I got a burst of energy though, when my friend, Liz, text me and some other friends about going to see Kingsman: The Secret Service. I was the only one who could go but I was definitely ready to get off work and go see it. My fiancé was out of town, visiting with his friends and I had nothing to do and was scared I was gonna be home all alone for the night.
After I got done a dismal day at work, I ran home, got changed and was off to the movie theatre. Liz was there and ready to go! The movie was great and I loved how it was shot and directed. I also loved the main guy in the movie but we’ll be quiet about that one! 😛 A lot of people told me it would be a little like Kick-Ass and I love Kick-Ass, but from seeing trailers, I didn’t really believe them. It was very similar though! I was glad and I can’t wait to see it again with my fiancé.
I thought of this song for the day because it was in a trailer for the movie and because it had my sense of urgency in the lyrics and fast pace that I had at work in the beat.

2.11.15 | Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) – Eurythmics

Stand-out Lyric/s – Sweet dreams are made of this / Who am I to disagree / I travel the world and the seven seas / Everybody’s looking for something

Today I awoke from a really weird dream. I was in Disney World with my parents, my brother, and my boyfriend. My dad came into the hotel room to wake me up (it felt like I had missed breakfast with the family or something?) and he kept saying “We’re going to Disney today, you gotta get up!” And in my dream I was SO tired, I could barely move any kind of muscle, or keep my eyes open. I had never had this type of dream, where I was sleeping and even in my dream I was tired. I also remember, in my dream, that we went to Disney and I had to find a restroom nearby to take a nap.. like “What?!?!” So strange.
The rest of the day, I was at work and I chose to pick up two shifts. What was I thinking? Needless to say, the whole day felt a little off.. I kept thinking about the dream and why I had it and just ended up thinking of nothing but what the table just ordered and if I got it right or not.
I love this song and I think it kind of goes with my dream-like-state that I was in all day. I also love this song in the movie Suckerpunch as well. Every time I hear it,  I think of that movie and I feel like a badass for the rest of the day, ready to tackle on any enemy that comes my way.

Kelly

1.26.15 | Breathe In – Japanese Wallpaper, Wafia

Standout Lyric/sHeart beats at arms length

Today, my boyfriend and I went to Target to get a few things, but you know when you do that, you also come out with a million other things. We went to the movie section and I got one and so did he. He chose Pacific Rim, which wasn’t terrible. I got Wish I Was Here.
Garden State is definitely one of my top 10 favorite movies. I know a bunch of people hate it but I’m in love with it, so I thought I would give Zach Braff’s new movie a chance. Turns out, I love this one too.
I love that it brought out everything everyone is afraid of. Losing someone, raising your children, and so much more. It also spoke to me because the main character, Aiden (Braff), struggled with his faith and his career choice. Much like I do. I feel like I’m getting more solid in those but it’s nice to know that other people feel the same way and are just as lost as I am.
When this song played in the movie, I couldn’t help but to feel overwhelmed by it. It gave me such chills and a sense of belief that everything works out the way it’s supposed to. Even if, when bad things are happening, we can’t see through them.
I highly advise, that you watch this movie. And Garden State. Now. Seriously. GO!

Yours for the listening,
Kelly
